    Description

This is a restored/overhauled rare amplifier made for Gretsch by MAGNATONE   back in 1955, Model is M-157-3V, production lasted 2 years and not many of these amps are around. Looks great and sound like did back in 1955. I had in my mind to complete this projects for very long time and I spend good money on restoration. Can not get any better studio amplifier. The amp is 85% original. All components such as capacitors the old ones that known to leak and harm and destroying the tubes all replaced with equivalent value. Original NOS Tubes installed for peace of mind also a three prong grounded power cord added.
The original 4 Ohms speaker was scratchy and replaced with NOS similar. The grill cloth was wire meshed rusty and moldy therefore a period grill cloth installed. The wooden case had a few cracks appears from weather elements that re-glued filled with wood putty and sanded and entire cabinet re-covered with exotic looking snake skin.
I left the original back panel with its original covering and all the mounting screws regardless are rusty for authentic look. The handle and rubber feet are all original including the TRIAD power transformer and output transformer.
The original covering was lathered that used to cover the books and was made from very fine thin material. The new vinyl now days are heavier material although was recovered by a professional does lock some details and perfections.
During the two years production they made similar with some small changes. For example the ON/OFF switch is pull up type and volume 1/7 there is another type white chicken head that ON/OFF is in line without pulling to energize the circuit. The similar MAGNATONE Model was M-157-3vb in relation to M-157-3V Gretsch labeled amplifier models.
My opening bid is just about what cost me for technician to replace all necessary electronic components and parts and materials including the cabinet/upholstery technician to put together. This amp is good to go for another trouble free 40 years.
I owned the amp for the passed three decades I did enjoyed for several years playing around the house. Now is the time to find a good home!
And most important is quite smooth and mallow tone that you expect from a vintage harp guitar amplifier. Your satisfaction guarantied
Thanks for looking and good luck
