Sapele splines are added to each corner on the lid and base of the box for added strength and to provide a decorative accent.
All boxes are smoothly finished by hand using a high quality, satin, protective varnish.
All of our products are made using wood from non-endangered species.
Since each box is made to order, the wood grain pattern/color will vary from order to order and exact dimensions may vary slightly.
Our Process:
Each of these boxes are made from single rough-sawn planks of poplar and sapele woods.
First, they are cut to general sizes, and then undergo a process of milling, ripping, routing and gluing/clamping. The joints are specifically mitered and strengthened with splines for both functional and decorative purposes. The interior edges are inset with sapele.
Each piece is as precisely measured as it is artistically formed, and is lined up with firm emphasis given to the look of the grain throughout.
The finishing process entails carefully sanding each box using increasing grits to achieve a smooth and attractive feel/look. This is followed by adding several coats of a satin varnish to protect each box while accentuating the wood.
Lastly, the hinges are installed.
