Description
GFCI Tester AC-Outlet AnalyzerWarns you of faulty wiring in 3-prong 110 - 125VAC outlets.
Detects and indicates normal wiring, bad ground, open neutral, reversed hot/neutral, reversed hot/ground and open hot.
Tests for correct operation of Ground Fault Isolators
For use only with GFCI and standard 110 - 125V 3-Wire grounded AC outlets.
Cautions:
Unplug all appliances on the circuit being tested.
This tester is not a comprehensive diagnostic instrument.
A qualified electrician must do all corrective work.
This tester will not indicate the quality of a ground connection.
This tester will not detect two hot wires in circuit or two or more types of defects in combination.
This tester will not show reversed grounded and grounding conductors.
When testing GFCI protection installed in 2-wire systems where no ground wire is available, the tester might give a false indication. If this occurs, recheck the operation of the GFCI using the outlet's test and retest buttons The GFCI button test function demonstrates proper operation.
Important Notes:
To ensure the tester works properly, always test it on a known live circuit before using it.
Make sure the receptacle to be tested is installed in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.
A GFCI outlet installed on an electrical circuit provides GFCI protection to each outlet on that circuit, even if the other outlets do not have test and reset buttons.
To use the tester, plug it into each AC outlet on the circuit. One of the following appears:
Indicator
Connection/Fault
Explanation
░▓▓
None
The AC outlet is wired correctly
░▓░
Open Ground
The ground contact is not connected
░░▓
Open Neutral
The neutral contact is not connected
░░░
Open Hot
Hot contact not connected
▓░▓
Hot/Ground Reverse
The hot and ground contacts are interchanged
▓▓░
Hot/Neutral Reverse
The hot and neutral contacts are interchanged
If your outlet has GFCI protection, hold down the tester's button for about 6 seconds. If GFCI is working, the red LED brightens for a few seconds then turns off.
Notes:
If any combination of lights other than ░▓▓ appears, disconnect power and correct the problem. Then reapply power to the AC outlet and retest it. If any combination of lights other than ░▓▓ appears, repeat this step.
If the tester's red light does not turn off after about 6 seconds, the AC outlet's GFCI did not work. This might mean that the GFCI is working but the wiring is incorrect, or that the wiring is correct but the GFCI is not working. If this happens, consult an electrician to determine the problem.
