    Description

    Vintage DenTone Bakelite Guitar Amplifier
As seen in the May, 2014 issue of Guitar Player (See photos for scan of article)!
Note:   It has become increasingly difficult to source these bakelite enclosures in nice condition.   This is the first I've found in 6 months or so.   I will only be making one or two of these amps per year until this situation improves (if it ever does).   So, if this is something you think you want, don't hesitate.   They are one of a kind and getting very rare.
For your consideration, an amazing guitar amplifier built from a vintage bakelite Teletalk intercom system. Reminiscent of the famous Deacy Amplifier made famous by Brian May of Queen, this little 1/2 watt amp roars with amazing tone. Powered by a standard Boss style 9V center negative adaptor with a 2.1mm plug (not included) or a 9V battery. Although the Guitar Player article mentions a line out jack, I no longer put those in because they caused some issues.
I've been having a really hard time finding these enclosures, that's why you haven't seen one of these listed for a while and it will probably be a long time before there is another, so it you are interested, I'd suggest not waiting to buy it.
Bakelite and Art Deco all rolled into one. Original speaker with a warm woody sound, the beautiful simplicity of one knob for volume and your control gain and tone from your guitar. The enclosure is very, very nice, but it isn't perfect, it has some wear as you would expect from something that is 70+ years old. Not much in the way of clean sounds or bass, and you aren't going to keep up with a drummer, but it's a cool desktop amp and conversation piece.
I'll let the demo speak for itself. Video demonstrates how the amp (same circuit, different shell) sounds with guitar plugged straight in, and also with a Tube Screamer (TS-808) in front of it. This amp is buffered so it takes pedals nicely.
Shipping is free to all USA addresses via Priority Mail.
Ebay makes it difficult to link to youtube demos, but search for dentone bakelite amp and you will find several demos of my previous builds.
